In 1008 or 1012, the Benedictine monastery of San Giovanni Battista was built here, but later the monks were forced to leave the complex for political reasons. However, a century later, the papacy recognized the need to bring the monks back to Vigolo Marchese. In 1310 and 1314, the complex was looted by the Visconti. In the sixteenth century, the hamlet was owned by the counts Sforza di Santa Fiora.
