Callianetto
Welcome to Callianetto
Welcome to Callianetto, a small hamlet in the province of Asti situated on a hill about 10 km north of Asti. This picturesque destination is known for its woods, vineyards, and a large river that runs through it. Throughout its long history, Callianetto has undergone numerous changes, and over the years has become a place rich in culture and history. In this article, we will discover the history of Callianetto, its physical geography, places of interest, and much more.
History
According to some historical sources, Callianetto was founded during the period when the Asti territory was the scene of civil strife. Some residents of the municipality of Calliano (Piedmont), located a few kilometers away, sought refuge in the area where the hamlet now stands, rich in woods and difficult to access areas. The similarity of the names of Calliano and Callianetto may have been chosen on purpose to maintain contact with the country of origin. In 1600, Callianetto and Castell'Alfero were placed under the protection of the city of Asti and under the dominion of the Duke of Savoy. In 1619, Callianetto became the fief of Gerolamo Germano, Marchese of Ceva.

Physical Geography
Callianetto is situated on a hill about 165 meters above sea level, surrounded by hills, vineyards, and woods. Among the trees present there are the Robinia, the Castanea sativa, and the Quercus. The hamlet is crossed by the Maggiolino stream and its tributary, the Valmarchese stream.
Places of Interest
The SS. Annunziata parish church is one of the most important places of interest in Callianetto. Although it is mentioned in passing as early as 1265, it has been modified and expanded over time. In 1570, it is cited by Monsignor Domenico della Rovere (bishop of Asti) as "Cappella## Cappellania". In 1627, the church became a parish during the pastoral visit of Monsignor Ottavio Broglia. The interior of the church houses a wooden group from the seventeenth century depicting the Virgin Mary and the Archangel Gabriel, paintings by Luigi Morgari and Giovanni Lamberti, an organ, and a choir in Juglans dating back to the nineteenth century. The church has undergone numerous restoration interventions over time, the most important of which dates back to 1663, when Bishop Paolo Vincenzo Roero ordered a restructuring of the building.
