Castelfranco Piandiscò
Welcome to Castelfranco Piandiscò!
Hello everyone! Today I will talk to you about Castelfranco Piandiscò, a municipality in the beautiful Tuscan region, located in the province of Arezzo.
History
Castelfranco Piandiscò was established on January 1, 2014, by merging the municipalities of Castelfranco di Sopra and Pian di Scò. The coat of arms and the banner of the municipality were granted by a decree of the President of the Republic on May 12, 2014. The banner is a split flag of red and blue.
Monuments and places of interest
If you love art and architecture, Castelfranco Piandiscò will not disappoint you. There are many places of interest and monuments to visit, both religious and civil.
Religious architecture
One of the most important attractions is the Monastery of San Salvatore in Soffena, also known as Badia di Soffena, whose oldest part dates back to the 9th century. Then there is the Pieve of Santa Maria in Scò of probable Etruscan origin and the main religious building of Pian di Scò, the Church of San Tommaso, the Oratory of the Sacrament Company, the Church of San Filippo Neri (Castelfranco di Sopra), the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception (Casabiondo), a chapel of Renaissance origin, the Church of San Michele of the 13th century and the Monastery in the locality of Quercioli (Castelfranco di Sopra).
Civil architecture
You can visit the Palazzo Comunale of Castelfranco di Sopra, the municipal theater Wanda Capodaglio, the Roman Aqueduct Bridge (Castelfranco di Sopra, via Firenze), the Roman Bridge on the mule track that connects La Lama with Pulicciano and the half span remaining of the Bridge of Mandri (Castelfranco di Sopra), located on the Faella stream, 90 meters upstream of the homonymous current bridge. This bridge was blown up by German soldiers in reprisal in 1944. It was one of the bridges of the Sette Ponti provincial road.
Castles and military architecture
Among the military architectures stands out the Castle of Poggio alla Regina whose first settlement dates back to the Bronze Age, the Arnolfo Tower or Porta Campana, the Porta Fiorentina and numerous tower houses of the Florentine Republic of the 13th-14th centuries, such as Giuncheto and Borgo Mocale.
