Despite being a municipality of only 602 inhabitants, Castelfondo has an interesting history and a privileged position in the beautiful Val di Non.
The history of Castelfondo
The name of the town derives from Castelfondo, a castle located lower down than the town. In the past, the town was called Melango, but when the parish was moved from the castle to the town, the name changed to Pieve di Castelfondo, and then definitively to Castelfondo.

Castelfondo is a small village rich in artistic, cultural, and religious heritage. Among the places of interest are:

Demographics and Administration
Despite its small size, Castelfondo was in the news when, in 2015, it became the only municipality in Trentino-Alto Adige where no one ran for the mayoral election. The situation was resolved and the elections were rescheduled.
