Castel Rozzone: history, monuments and places of interest

Origins

The origins of Castel Rozzone date back to the time of the Roman Empire, when the first stable settlements were established near the road of the "malgari". This development allowed for the formation of a well-defined residential structure of the village, with the typical division into "centurie".

Middle Ages

As a Ghibelline faction, in the course of the thirteenth century, the Rozzoni family began the construction of the fortified courtyard, which was located on the southern outskirts of the town and near the road of the "malgari", and characterized the life of the village for a long time. Beyond its defensive functions and as a residence for the family, this fortress also served as a customs office since it was located near the Bergamo moat, which was the border between the Republic of Venice and the Duchy of Milan.

Modern and contemporary age

In 1638, administrative and parish autonomy was achieved from Treviglio, with issues related to the distribution of taxes, which lasted throughout the years. Starting from the twentieth century, activities other than agriculture were introduced, such as woodworking and the cultivation of silkworms, which promoted the establishment of a silk factory. This first industrial activity was soon followed by many others, so much so that in the second half of the century, there was significant development in industrial activities, including art furniture.

Symbols

The coat of arms of the municipality of Castel Rozzone was granted by presidential decree on February 25, 1983.
