Sant'Anna: a place of beneficent grace

Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about Sant'Anna, a hamlet of the municipality of Castel Goffredo, located just 4 km from the Mantuan capital. The peculiarity of Sant'Anna is its name, which derives from the Hebrew "Hannah" and means beneficent grace. That's why I decided to dedicate this article to this special place.

Monuments and places of interest

In the center of the village you can admire the Oratory of Sant'Anna, a building built in 1727 which houses an important painting on canvas by the Mantuan painter Giuseppe Bazzani, "Education of the Virgin (Bazzani)", around 1750. Currently, the canvas is located in the MAST museum in Castel Goffredo, but you can still stop to admire the architecture of the Oratory, which is characterized by a beautiful bell tower.

Traditions and folklore

Sant'Anna is also known for its folkloristic tradition of lighting the bonfire, called "burièl" in the local dialect. This rite takes place every year on Epiphany day, when the village comes alive and residents gather to welcome the new year. The bonfire is lit at the top of the hill and is celebrated with traditional songs and dances. In addition, during the festival, the figure of the "vècia" is also celebrated, a sort of mascot that represents the old year and which is then burned after the lighting of the bonfire, symbolizing the transition from the old to the new year.

Conclusions

In conclusion, Sant'Anna is a place that definitely deserves a visit for anyone in the vicinity of Castel Goffredo. Its tradition, its history and its charm make it a unique and unforgettable place. If you have the opportunity to see it with your own eyes, you will surely be fascinated. And you, have you ever visited Sant'Anna or are you curious to do so? Let me know in the comments!
