Bocchere

Discovering Bocchere

Bocchere is a small hamlet in the municipality of Castel Goffredo in the province of Mantua. If you want to take a trip to explore this corner of Lombardy, there are some interesting places you cannot miss.

Monuments and places of interest

The Church of Santa Margherita is one of the most important monuments in the area. It dates back to the eighteenth century and is located in the center of the village. Its baroque facade is imposing, but it is the interior that surprises with its beauty and richness of decorations.

A short distance from the church is the Lombard Court, a large eighteenth-century building that has been well preserved. It is a true gem of rural Lombard architecture, with a beautiful inner courtyard, wooden porches and balconies, and an exposed brick facade.

But if you want to admire something truly special, you cannot miss the Magnolia of Bocchere, one of the monumental trees of Lombardy. This magnificent plant is about 200 years old and stands more than 30 meters tall. Its canopy is wide and dense and in the spring it is covered with pink flowers.

Bocchere: Discovering its Treasures

Notes

There is not much historical information about the village of Bocchere, but a document dating back to 774 refers to a Court located in the bottom called ''Buccaria''.

Bibliography

If you are interested in the history of the surrounding area, I recommend reading "The Origins of the Diocese of Mantua and the Episcopal Sees of Northern Italy (IV-XI century)" edited by Giancarlo Andenna, Gian Pietro Brogiolo and Renata Salvarani. Additionally, "Lombard Toponymy: between Mantua and Cremona" by Mario Mirabella Roberti is a useful text to discover the origins of the names of the places in the area.
