Castel di Tora: nature, history and tradition.

History

The village dates back to the medieval era, with the first historical evidence dating back to 1035, when some chronicles speak of a ''Castrum Vetus de Ophiano''. The current name was given to refer to an ancient Roman settlement called Tora (ancient city), where in 251 AD the martyrdom of Saint Anatolia took place, which actually happened in the homonymous contemporary town. In addition, ruins of an imperial age (circa 200 AD) necropolis were found near the town.
