Castel Condino

Welcome to Castel Condino

Hello everyone! Today I will talk to you about Castel Condino, a small town of 226 inhabitants located in the province of Trento, in Italy. The town is located about 810 meters above sea level on the right side of the Chiese valley and can be reached via the SP70 provincial road that branches off from the SS237 del Caffaro road at the Cimego settlement.

Monuments and places of interest

Castel Condino: Art and History in the Alps.

If you are a lover of art and religious architecture, Castel Condino has a lot to offer. The Church of San Giorgio, built in its current form in 1864 to replace the previous building, which can be traced back to at least the 13th century, is one of the main monuments in the city. The bell tower is still that of the original building. Additionally, you can visit the Chapel of the Dead, built in the 19th century.

History

The origins of the town date back a long time, certainly before 1000 AD, judging from the findings of Roman coins and tombs. The history of Castel Condino is intertwined with that of the First World War when the town was destroyed and the population evacuated due to the presence of Austro-Hungarian troops to the north and Italian troops to the south.

Geography

The town is located on the slopes of Dos del Gal and is surrounded by Monte Melino, Cima Pissola, and Cima Marrese. Beyond the town there is Boniprati.

Society

The population of Castel Condino has decreased over the years, but the town continues to be alive and active thanks to the efforts of its community.

Administration

Castel Condino is an autonomous municipality and the referendum for the merger with neighboring towns ended with a negative result.

Notes

This small mountain town has a lot to offer for those who are looking for an escape from the city and want to enjoy the unspoiled nature of the Italian Alps.
