Castagnole Piemonte: nature, history, and culture in a Piemontese gem.

Origin of the name

The name Castagnole Piemonte derives from the presence of the chestnut tree, whose symbol appears in the municipal coat of arms surmounted by the Latin inscription "Non inter ardua montium", meaning "Not among the asperities of the mountains". The determinant "Piemonte" was added in 1864 to distinguish the municipality from homonymous centers in the Langhe and Monferrato areas.

History

The history of Castagnole Piemonte dates back to the Bronze Age, as evidenced by a finding of a deposit of working axes. In 1037, the territory of Castagnole was included in the county of Turin and was governed by the bishops of Turin before passing to the Piossasco counts of the De' Rossi branch. In the seventeenth century, the municipality passed under the lordship of the Savoy.
