Welcome to Cassiglio!

Hello everyone! Today we'll talk about a small village nestled among the mountains, Cassiglio, located in Lombardy in the province of Bergamo. Here you can breathe the pure air of the mountains and live in peace, far from the hustle and bustle of the city. With its 109 inhabitants, Cassiglio is the ideal place for those seeking peace and serenity.

History

Cassiglio, called 'Cassèi' in Bergamo dialect, has no significant historical events. However, it is presumed that the first stable settlements in the area date back to the time of the barbarian invasions, when populations sought refuge in remote places away from conquering hordes. It is interesting to note that the inhabitants of the nearby Valsassina arrived in Cassiglio (presumably around the 6th century) as evidenced by some place names that are the same in both areas.

The toponym Cassiglio derives from Latin ''Cas-Ilium'' and indicates a small rural house used as a straw storehouse. The processing of iron into nails, through hammers driven by the numerous streams that cross the municipal territory, was the main economic activity of the village during the Middle Ages.

After the advent of the Cisalpine Republic, Cassiglio was included in the canton of Alta Valle Brembana. However, during this period, there were no significant events. Only in the last decades, the tourism industry has been helping the village to revive after a period of depopulation.
