Hello everyone! Today I'll be talking about Cassacco, an Italian municipality located in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. Cassacco, or "Cjassà" in Friulian, has around 2,830 inhabitants and is famous for its high-medieval castle known as "Cassimberg".
History
The history of this municipality dates back to the Middle Ages, when the castle was built. In 1976, Cassacco was devastated by the Friuli earthquake, which caused extensive damage and collapses.
Symbols
The coat of arms and the banner of the municipality were granted by decree of the President of the Republic on March 30, 1976. The banner is a cloth divided in half between red and blue.
Monuments and Places of Interest
Cassacco boasts several monuments and places of interest to visit:
- Castle of Cassimberg: built in the 13th century, it has remained well-preserved and is worth a visit to admire its majesty.
- Church of San Giovanni Battista: also dating back to the 13th century, it has a beautiful frescoed facade.
- Church of Saints Andrea and Giacomo il Minore, in Conoglano: built in 1905, it is a rather recent church compared to others in the area.
- Church of San Martino, in Martinazzo: dating back to 1688, it contains valuable works of art.
- Church of Santa Maria Maddalena, in Montegnacco: also built in the 13th century, this church is known for its frescoed walls.
- Church of San Marco Evangelista, in Raspano: dating back to the 14th century, it is located in a charming village.
- Bell tower: erected in 1926, this tower is located on a relief about 100 meters from the parish church and was built inspired by the architecture of the bell tower of the duomo of Lucca.
- Villa Gallici Deciani, in Montegnacco: dating back to the 17th century, this villa is a true gem of Friulian architecture.

In Cassacco, alongside Italian, Friulian is also spoken. The municipality is included in the list of Italian municipalities of Friulian language under the Deliberation of the President of the Regional Government of Friuli-Venezia Giulia.

Cassacco is divided into several hamlets and villages, each with its own characteristic charm:
- Cassacco/Cjassà: the heart of the municipality, with its villages of Candòr, Felesùt, and Jordan;
- Conoglano/Conoglan: where you can find the villages of Baiùt, Cês, Cjastenêt, Fari, Menùt, Miot, and Tinòt;
- Martinazzo/Martinaç: with its villages of Coldèan, Zanin, and Simeoni;
- Montegnacco/Montegnà: where there are the villages of Bâs, Boschìn, Calvari, Culiti, Fari, Maur, and Sfueime;
- Raspano/Raspan: with the villages of Boschet, Ciacul, Criche, di Sore, and Viso.
Administration
Twinning
Cassacco does not currently have twinning arrangements with any other municipalities.
Sports
Cassacco is a very active place from a sports point of view. The local football team, A.S. Cassacco Startrep, founded in 2001, plays in the Lega Calcio Friuli Collinare championship. The men's basketball team, which is part of the Polisportiva Comunale, plays in the Promozione championship (Girone Udine) of FIP.
