Geography
Casei Gerola is located in the plain of Oltrepò Pavese, on the border with the province of Alessandria. It is only 7 km west of Voghera and 35 km southwest of Pavia. The municipality is crossed by the Curone stream, which joins the Po River a few kilometers away.
History
The history of Casei Gerola dates back to Roman times: the town is located at the western end of the centuriation grid country belonging to the Roman colony of Piacenza. In 712, King Liutprand gave the lands to the Abbey of San Pietro in Ciel d'Oro in Pavia, but over the centuries they passed under the dominion of various lords and noble families.
In 1164, Frederick Barbarossa assigned Casei to Pavia, becoming part of the original nucleus of Oltrepò Pavese. Over the centuries, the fief passed into the hands of the Beccaria, the Visconti, and the Torelli, until the abolition of feudalism in 1797.
Municipal territory
The municipal territory of Casei Gerola consists of three exclave. The first is located near the Po River, the second north of the town of Cornale, and the third northeast of Bastida de' Dossi. In addition, within the municipality, we find the hamlet of Gerola and the center of Campeggi, known since the twelfth century.
