Casasco
Welcome to Casasco!
Hello everyone! Today we are talking about Casasco, a small Italian municipality in the province of Alessandria, in Piedmont. With only 115 inhabitants, Casasco is located on a ridge that separates the Curone and Grue valleys. Despite its small population, this place has a very interesting history, unique heraldic symbols and curious facts to discover.
History
As is the case for many other places in Italy, Casasco has a fascinating medieval history. In the Middle Ages, it was part of the Tortona county and then the bishopric, before passing into the hands of various Genoese families. It was only later that it followed the events of the Grue valley and its namesake watercourse.
Symbols
The coat of arms and flag of the municipality of Casasco were granted by presidential decree on April 21, 1999. The colors of the emblem are gold and black, taken from the coat of arms of the Piedmontese Bussetti nobility. The flag is a yellow cloth.
Society
Demographic evolution
In the last 100 years, the municipality has lost almost 80% of its resident population. This may seem like a worrying figure, but we must not forget that rural areas have often been affected by depopulation. Nonetheless, the current population is proud of their community.
Administration
The municipality of Casasco has had several administrations that have succeeded over the years, as can be seen from the appropriate table. In addition, it was part of the Curone Grue and Ossona Mountain Community, a local authority that covered several municipalities in the area.
