Welcome to Casaprota!

Hello everyone! Today, I'll be talking to you about Casaprota, a municipality in the province of Rieti in Lazio, which has a population of 693.

Let's discover the physical geography of Casaprota

The village is located 523 meters above sea level, on the southern slopes of the Sabine mountains. It is situated on the upper basin of the Farfa stream, on a hilltop ridge that separates the main valley from the right-hand side of the Montenero ditch.

The climate is classified as zone E, 2317 GR/G. In short, Casaprota offers a breathtaking view of a wonderful relaxing countryside!

Trip to Casaprota: history, geography and economy.

History of the village

The origin of Casaprota dates back to the 10th century, when the "fundus Casaprotae" belonged to the Abbey of Farfa. During the 11th and 12th centuries, the village belonged to the noble De Romania family, the most powerful family in Sabina.

Later, in the 13th century, Casaprota became the domain of the Brancaleoni family, which finally sold it to the Orsini family in 1476. In 1604, the village was incorporated into the direct domains of the Papal States.

Demography and economy of Casaprota

From a demographic point of view, the village has 28 active companies that employed 39 workers in 2015.

Regarding its economy, I must admit that Casaprota is not an industrial center, but is known for its agricultural activity, with the production of oil, wine, and other seasonal products.

Infrastructure and transportation

The main connection artery of Casaprota is the Strada statale 4 Via Salaria, which connects the village to Rome and the provincial capital of Rieti.

The village is also connected to the state highway via two municipal roads: one that connects to Salaria in the Ornaro locality (towards Rieti), the other in Ponte Buida locality (near Osteria Nuova, towards Rome). Another municipal road connects Casaprota to Montenero Sabino and then to Via Tancia, which leads to Poggio Mirteto.

Unfortunately, Casaprota is not served by any railway line, although it was supposed to be connected by the Salaria Railway (Rome-Rieti-Ascoli Piceno-San Benedetto del Tronto), which was repeatedly planned since the end of the 19th century but never realized.

Administration

In 1923, the village passed from the province of Perugia in Umbria to the province of Rome in Lazio, and in 1927, following the reorganization of provincial districts established by royal decree on January 1, 1927, it became part of the province of Rieti.

Conclusions

Here's a brief overview of Casaprota for you! This small village, immersed in the beauty of the surrounding nature, offers the opportunity to admire breathtaking views and taste local products such as oil and wine. If you're looking for relaxation and tranquility, don't miss a visit to Casaprota!
