History
Casanova Lerrone has an ancient history dating back to the 10th century. The municipality was originally included in the County of Albenga and in the subsequent Marca Aleramica before becoming the possession of Boniface of Savoy in 1091. Over the centuries, the municipality changed ownership several times, from the del Carretto family to the Marquises of Clavesana, to the Doria family, to the counts of Lengueglia and the Negroni family. In the 18th century, protests from the Casanovese community against the government of Genoa led to greater autonomy from the central government.
With the fall of the Genoese government, Casanova Lerrone became part of the Ligurian Republic before being annexed to the First French Empire from 1805 to 1814. In 1815, the municipality came under the Kingdom of Sardinia and later the Kingdom of Italy, where it is part of the province of Savona.
