The town was first mentioned in an official document in 962, when Emperor Otto I of Saxony donated the area to the Manfredingi. Over the centuries, the fief passed to the Church of Vercelli and then to the family of the Counts of Biandrate. In 1170, it was sold to the Avogadro brothers, who managed it until the end of the 18th century, under the lordship of the Casa Savoia. The town's coat of arms depicts the golden and red stripes, a symbol of the Avogadro family. The flag, instead, is yellow with a blue border.
