After being destroyed in the 15th century, the village was rebuilt by a community of Arbëreshë refugees who sought refuge from the Turkish invasion in the Balkans. Initially settled in Castelnuovo della Daunia, the Arbëreshë had to face several difficulties and tensions with the community of Castelnuovo, but in the end, they asked and obtained to live in a nearby hamlet, which became Casalvecchio di Puglia. Today, this commune is a linguistic island in which the language and culture of the Arbëreshë are still very much alive.
