Roncadello: a geographical fraction of the Municipality of Casalmaggiore

Hello everyone! Today I would like to talk to you about a geographical fraction of the Municipality of Casalmaggiore, called Roncadello. Roncadello is located southeast of the town center and is a very interesting area from a historical and cultural point of view. I invite you to discover together the history of this area!

History of Roncadello

In the 15th century, the municipality of Casalmaggiore obtained special autonomies and privileges from the Visconti family to maintain its strategic loyalty on the Po River against Venetian ambitions. Among these advantages, there was that of maintaining a certain power over neighboring villages, including Roncadello and its parish. Under Empress Maria Theresa, this authority took on the form of a separate provincial administration, while it was with Napoleon that the municipalities were suppressed and the entire territory was unified into the City of Casalmaggiore.

However, a special dispensation continued to separately configure the former municipality for census purposes, with officially defined borders. Roncadello is therefore a geographical fraction of the Municipality of Casalmaggiore and is part of the province of Cremona.
