Casalgrasso

Welcome to Casalgrasso

Hello everyone! Today I will talk to you about Casalgrasso, a small municipality located in the province of Cuneo, in Piedmont. With only 1430 inhabitants, Casalgrasso is a beautiful village where history and nature blend together to create a unique atmosphere.

History

The history of Casalgrasso is very interesting. Here, the Marshal of France Nicolas de Catinat de La Fauconnerie, in the service of Louis XIV of France, had to cross the Po river at the ford of Casalgrasso, but the residents of Casalgrasso tried to resist him. Unfortunately, the French prevailed and Catinat, after defeating the Savoy army in the Battle of Staffarda, burned down the village. Fortunately, Casalgrasso was later rebuilt and its municipal motto is now "Hostibus resistit", which means "I have resisted the enemy".
