Casaleggio Novara
Hello friends, here is the Municipality of Casaleggio Novara!
If you are lovers of religious architecture, I recommend you visit the Church of Sant'Antonio abate, the only monument present in Casaleggio Novara.
The history of the Church of Sant'Antonio abate
The Church of Sant'Antonio abate, located in an isolated position surrounded by rice fields, dates back to the medieval period. Today only the perimeter walls and the bell tower remain, which was rebuilt in the fifteenth century. In the eighteenth century, a new baroque presbytery was built. The structure of the church has three aisles. The first documentary evidence dates back to 1556, when a benefit was established for the celebration of a festive mass. In the pastoral visit of 1573, the church was 30 steps long and 16 wide, equipped with the main altar and two minor side altars. According to some modern hypotheses, the structure was flanked by other minor buildings to accommodate travelers and pilgrims.
