To the west-southwest of the city is the "Formation of Casale Monferrato", composed of alternating layers of more or less marly limestone, fine calcareous sandstone, and micaceous sandstone. The municipal territory is located on a series of hills, with the highest point reaching 299 meters. The main waterway that crosses the city is the Po River, followed by the Lanza and Mellana canals.
