Vidolasco

Discovery of Terramare and terrain formation

In 1906, Prof. Luigi Pigorini discovered a Terramare in Montecchio. Subsequently, starting in 1957, archaeological excavations of the area began, which unearthed the settlement of the Bronze Age.

The terrain formation in Montecchio is peculiar: the presence of a hill that rises from the surrounding area has created a sort of natural island. The terramara is formed by the deposition of alluvial material, which is stratified due to the alternation of periods of drought and flooding of the Serio River.

Church of Santa Maria Assunta

The Church of Santa Maria Assunta, located in the hamlet of Vidolasco, dates back to the 14th century. In 1499, during the war between the French and the Spanish, the inhabitants of Vidolasco took refuge inside the church. In 1583, the church was restored and adorned with new works of art, including the altarpiece depicting the Madonna and Child with Saint Rocco.
