Casalbuono: a Municipality nestled in the mountains of Campania

Located at 661 meters above sea level, the Municipality of Casalbuono is surrounded by the mountains Gioncolo and Monte Difesa and is crossed by the river Calore Lucano. With a population of only 1040 inhabitants, Casalbuono is a small village nestled in the nature and tranquility of the province of Salerno, in Campania.

The history of the Municipality of Casalbuono

Casalbuono was born in the XIII century as a fiefdom of the Abbey of Santa Maria di Cadossa, whose feudal jurisdiction extended over the hundred families residing in the village. In 1514, with a bull of Pope Leo X, the village passed under the Certosa di Padula (San Lorenzo). For centuries, Casalbuono was called Casalnuovo, until the royal decree of 1862 which established its current name.

The Municipality of Casalbuono has witnessed a slow demographic decline, which today brings the population to only 1040 inhabitants. However, the village boasts a strong identity linked to its traditions and culture.

Casalbuono can be reached by car through the Strada Statale 19 delle Calabrie and the Strada Provinciale 140. The village also has a railway station on the Ferrovia Sicignano degli Alburni-Lagonegro, with replacement bus service.

The administration of the Municipality of Casalbuono is delegated to the Regional Basin Authority Sinistra Sele and to the Interregional Basin Authority of the Sele River. In addition, the Municipality is part of the Vallo di Diano Mountain Community.
