Hello everyone! If you're looking for a peaceful place in the Campania region, then you made the right choice selecting Casagiove! With its 12,980 inhabitants, Casagiove is a very quiet and charming town, located next to the city of Caserta.

History of Casagiove

Fascinating, charming, and rich in history: that's how you can describe the town of Casagiove. Until 1810, the town was named "Casanova," but once integrated with the villa of Cocagna, it took the official name of "Comune di Casanova e Coccagna." The change of name to Casagiove occurred later in 1872, when members of the city council believed that the territory in the past had a temple dedicated to Jupiter. Thanks to the recent discovery of artifacts, it is estimated that the first human settlements were around 400-300 BCE. The oldest document of the town dates back to 969 CE, which concerned the church of S. Croce. In the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, the nearby town of Torre (now Caserta) recorded a significant demographic expansion due to the work on the Reggia di Caserta. Many of the workers settled with their families in nearby Casagiove. In 1806, the town was designated as a municipality and Liborio Menditto was appointed as the first mayor.

The Temple dedicated to Jupiter

Although some believe the belief to be incorrect, many members of the city council believe that there was a temple dedicated to Jupiter in the area. In 1997, this belief was confirmed with the discovery of the temple on the Tifatini Mountains, thanks to Mr. Mario Rivetti who found three bronze plaques from the Roman era. After the discovery of the plaques, the excavation campaign was assigned to the archaeologist Valeria Sampaolo. Currently, one can admire what remains of the temple on Mount Tifata at an altitude of 526, currently the territory of the municipality of San Prisco.
