History of the province of Crotone
The creation of the province of Crotone dates back to 1992, when the request to establish a new entity with Crotone as its capital was finally approved. However, the request had already been made for the first time in 1957, but it was only thanks to the determination of a coalition of twenty-seven mayors that the entity became operational in the spring of 1995.
Symbols of the province of Crotone
The coat of arms of the province of Crotone is characterized by a white shield with gold and red stripes, above which there is an eagle with outstretched wings holding a crown. On either side of the shield are two laurel branches joined by a white and red ribbon.
Physical geography of the province of Crotone
The province of Crotone extends from the Ionian Sea to the mountains of Sila. Among the most renowned tourist locations are Le Castella, where the famous castle in the sea is located, Punta Alice with its clean sea, and Capo Colonna, a recommended cultural destination. In the mountains, it is possible to visit Trepidò and the famous Villaggio Palumbo and Villaggio Pino Grande fraction of Savelli in Sila.
The Arbëreshë community of the province of Crotone
In the province of Crotone, there is also a small Arbëreshë community, mainly located in the municipalities of Pallagorio, San Nicola dell'Alto, and Carfizzi. This community fluently speaks Arbëreshë, an Albanian dialect, and in the public offices of the area, the dual validity of the Albanian and Italian languages is allowed.
