Carzano, a small Trentino municipality to discover
Carzano is an Italian municipality with only 519 inhabitants, located in the province of Trento. It is the smallest municipality in the province and the second smallest in the entire Trentino-Alto Adige region. Despite its small size, Carzano has a very interesting history and some attractions not to be missed during a visit. Geography
Located in the Adige Valley, Carzano is surrounded by mountains and forests, offering a charming setting for nature lovers. Given its location, it is possible to practice numerous outdoor activities throughout the year, such as hiking, walking, mountain biking, and skiing.
History
Carzano also has an interesting history. During World War I, in the autumn of 1917, it was the scene of a particularly intense military episode. Major Cesare Pettorelli Lalatta of the Information Service developed a plan called the "Carzano Dream," which, if put into practice, would have allowed the Italian troops to invade Valsugana and perhaps conquer Trento. Unfortunately, the plan did not succeed, despite Pettorelli Lalatta's efforts.
However, as per his wish, the major is now buried in the cemetery in Carzano, and this is a place worth visiting for those interested in the history of the region.
Monuments and places of interest
Carzano has a main monument, the Church of Santa Maria della Neve, built in the 17th century. The church is a parish church and has recently been restored while maintaining its original style. Inside, the church is decorated with frescoes and statues representing episodes from the life of the Virgin Mary.
Society
The population of Carzano is only 519 inhabitants, a very low number but one that does not prevent the community from being active and well-organized. The municipality is based on active participation by citizens and local associations, which are able to carry out numerous activities and initiatives throughout the year.
Demographic evolution
The population of Carzano has never been numerous. In the 1921 census, the municipality had only 238 inhabitants, a number that has grown slightly over the years to reach the current figure of just over 500 residents.
Administration
Carzano is an autonomous municipality in the province of Trento, with its own municipal council consisting of seven members. The mayor is elected directly by the population with the single-round majority system. The municipality also has a department for culture and tourism, which is responsible for promoting the beauty of the territory and organizing initiatives for residents and tourists.
