Carrè
Welcome to Carrè
Hi everyone! Today, we'll talk about Carrè, a town in the province of Vicenza, Veneto, Italy. Carrè has a population of approximately 3,535 inhabitants and they are known as "carradiensi".
Physical geography
The town extends west of the Bregonze hills and has a flat and hilly territory. Here, a stream called Igna is born and almost the entire territory is cultivated, except for some wooded areas between the Zavagnin hill and Rua, where trees such as Robinia, Willow and Ash can be found. Hornbeam trees along with Robinia can be found northeast of the village. The water in Carrè comes from the Piesan spring located in a nearby town and from a well in the industrial area.
Origin of the name
The name Carrè comes from the Latin "carrus", which means station for carriages. However, there are other theories that suggest that the name may come from the Celtic "car", which means stone or rock in reference to the pebbly appearance of the territory. Additionally, there is also a possibility that the name comes from the square shape of the land properties.
History
The origins of Carrè are uncertain. Archaeologists have found tombs, bronzes, ceramics and mosaics from the Roman era. In 1046, the bishop of Parma claimed ownership of Carrè's assets, which were the subject of controversy. Carrè was a fief of the Capra (or "Capella") family from the twelfth century until the time of Serenissima. There are ecclesiastical documents from 1030-38 attesting to the existence of a castle on the hill above the village. The castle was destroyed in 1165 and then rebuilt, but suffered serious damage from an earthquake in 1348.
I hope this brief summary has helped you to get to know Carrè better!
