Carpino
Hello everyone, today I will talk about the municipality of Carpino, located in the beautiful region of Puglia.
Physical geography
Carpino is located in the northern and non-coastal part of Gargano, between the Umbra Forest and Lake Varano. The territory is mainly hilly and the prevalent vegetation is typical of the crops in the area and pastures, with olive groves surrounding the urban center.
Etymology
It is uncertain where the name Carpino comes from, but it is assumed to refer to the presence of deer or a forest of hornbeams that were once in the area.
History
The origins of Carpino are uncertain, however, objects dating back to the prehistoric era and traces of Roman settlements have been found in the territory.
Traditions
Carpino is known for the production of olive oil and fava beans, as well as the Carpino Folk Festival, which celebrates popular Italian music. Additionally, in honor of the festivities of San Rocco, the traditional Palio di San Rocco takes place, an ancient equestrian event that has its origins since the second half of the nineteenth century.
Climate and seismic activity
The climate of Carpino is temperate due to its latitude and longitude, with average annual temperatures ranging from 7 degrees Celsius in January to 24 degrees Celsius in July and August. The area falls into zone 2 (medium-high seismic activity) according to the Ordinance PCM no. 3274 of 20/03/2003.
