The history of Carpineto della Nora
According to some discoveries, Carpineto della Nora's origins date back to the 3rd century BC. However, the current village was built in the 10th century near the Nora River, under the Lecina hill, where the abbey of San Bartolomeo now stands.
The name of the municipality comes from the carpino forest in the area and its proximity to the Nora River. The fortified abbey of San Bartolomeo was originally dependent on the abbey of Santa Maria di Casanova, the first of the five Abruzzese abbeys of the 10th century. In the 17th century, Carpineto della Nora was owned by Federico Borromeo, who rebuilt the parish church dedicated to Carlo Borromeo.
In the last century, Carpineto della Nora had about 1,400 inhabitants and was a feud belonging to Penne, included in the homonymous district of Abruzzo Ultra. In 1927, with the establishment of the province of Pescara, Carpineto passed under its jurisdiction. The village remained substantially unchanged until the 1960s, when some rural houses were replaced by new buildings.

Built in the 10th century and completed in the 13th, it was commissioned by Bernardo, count of Penne, who donated it to the local friars. The bell tower next to the façade could be the old tower. The three-naved interior is decorated with a Gothic altar supported by four columns. The entrance portal features bas-reliefs colored by floral and vegetal figures.
