Migliarina

Welcome to Migliarina, the rural hamlet of Carpi

If you love a peaceful life away from the chaos of the city, then Migliarina is the place for you! This ancient hamlet of Carpi is located at the border between the provinces of Modena and Reggio Emilia, with a population of about 1800 inhabitants. Despite the presence of two important industrial centers, Migliarina maintains its rural character, with scattered houses amid the fields.

The history of Migliarina

Migliarina has ancient origins: its location near a motte suggests that it was originally linked to the presence of the ancient path of the Rio Tresinaro. During the Roman era, the hamlet may have been the site of a military camp, part of a centuriation on a vast area extending between the Secchia River and the Rio Tresinaro.

In the medieval era, fences and walls were built around the perimeter of the motte for delimitation and defense purposes, and Lombardic artifacts, such as a buckle and an ax residue, have been found. The presence of this population on the territory is documented as early as 772 through two diplomas, and represents one of the earliest concrete evidence of human settlement in the area.

Where is it and what is it like

Migliarina covers an area of 8.7 square kilometers and includes two main residential areas: one along the Budrione Migliarina road, with a monumental gravestone for fallen partisans, and one near the Santa Giulia church. The latter is located on the provincial road n°1 Sorbarese, about 5.5 kilometers from the center of Carpi.

Despite the presence of two industrial centers, Migliarina is mainly a rural hamlet, with scattered houses amid the fields. The ancient parish church of Santa Giulia is the heart of the hamlet, from which the houses of farmers radiated.
