Cortile

Greetings from Cortile: the agricultural village of Carpi

Hello everyone! Today I'm going to talk about Cortile, a village located to the east of Carpi, in the province of Modena. Our village has a population of about one thousand inhabitants and is known for its agricultural economy specializing in livestock breeding, orchards, and vineyards. Furthermore, in recent years, there has been significant development in quality agritourism and restaurants. Are you ready to discover more about our small but welcoming community?

History: the origin of Cortile

Cortile has its roots in the Roman era, as evidenced by archaeological evidence and the road networks of centurions in our territory. In the 1800s, it became an independent municipality and only later was annexed to the territory of Carpi. Our historical agricultural community has undergone constant transformation over the centuries, but has managed to maintain its own character and traditions.

Monuments and places of interest: the church of San Nicola di Bari

One of the main attractions of Cortile is the church of San Nicola di Bari, designed by architect Achille Sammarini in 1872 in eclectic 19th-century style. The interior of the church is decorated in Renaissance style, with 19th-century scagliola works and ancient paintings from the previous church. Among the artists who have left their mark in our church are Lelio Rossi and Albano Lugli. The bell tower, the only remaining element of the old church, has 15th-century features.

Life in Cortile flows peacefully, immersed in the beauty of the Modena countryside. The territory around our village offers different opportunities for trekking and cycling enthusiasts. Agricultural activities represent the main source of income for our fellow citizens, but in recent years, new activities related to agritourism and restaurants have begun to develop as well.
