Castiglione di Carovilli: nature and environment

Hello everyone! Today I'll be talking about Castiglione di Carovilli, a beautiful hamlet in the municipality of Isernia in Molise, which is located in an area of great scenic and faunal value.

Among the main points of interest in Castiglione, the WWF Oasis of Collearso stands out, crossed by the Trigno river. Here you can admire numerous species of mammals, including wild boars, deer, wolves, foxes and weasels, birds such as Accipitridae, reptiles such as the common viper and fireflies, and many amphibians.

But that's not all! Castiglione also boasts a historical and architectural heritage of great importance. Not to be missed is the visit to the ancient church on the hill, dating back to the fifteenth century, which today, especially in the summer months, hosts theatrical and musical events of great quality.

Traditional Festivities

But the real unmissable event in Castiglione di Carovilli is the feast of San Nicola di Bari, patron saint of the hamlet, which is celebrated both in December and May. A grand procession in honor of the saint passes through the streets of the village, creating a magical atmosphere that will stay with you in your heart.

Additionally, every October 17th, the country fair takes place, once focused on the buying and selling of livestock. Today, however, the event has become an opportunity to taste the local delicacies and excellent wines of the area.

Events and Festivals

Don't miss the second and third week of August, in the location of Staffoli, just 5 kilometers from the town, the "Staffoli Horses" event, dedicated to horse lovers. Here you can experience the thrill of a horseback ride in the midst of unspoiled nature.

In the fall, however, you cannot miss the search for mushrooms, such as the Prugnolo (mushroom), Cantharellus cibarius, and Tuber (genus), which abound in this area. A true delight for the most demanding palates!

Conclusion

In short, Castiglione di Carovilli is a true paradise for nature lovers, history enthusiasts, and local traditions. Undoubtedly, a place to visit at least once in a lifetime, especially if you are looking for an authentic experience, far from the most crowded tourist places. Come and discover the beauty of this enchanted land!
