Carovilli
Welcome to Carovilli!
Hello everyone! Today, I want to talk to you about Carovilli, an Italian town located in the province of Isernia, in Molise. With its 1252 inhabitants, Carovilli is a peaceful and familiar place, where everyone knows each other and helps one another. I like to think of it as a big family, where everyone has an important role.
The name's origin
Do you know how Carovilli got its name? There are many theories, but the most widespread one says that the name is a tribute to the Roman consul Spurio Carvilio Massimo, mentioned by the historian Tito Livio in book X of his work Ab Urbe Condita. Isn't it fascinating to think that our small town has a connection to ancient Rome?
The history of Carovilli
But let's move on to the actual history. Carovilli has a long history dating back to the Longobards. Throughout the centuries, the fiefdom of Carovilli changed hands multiple times. It was part of the Borrello, then the Carafa/Spina (Pescolanciano) and Carafa/Malizia (Forlì) families, and finally to the d'Alessandro di Pescolanciano, who remained in possession of the fiefdom until the disappearance of feudalism.
During this time, many members of the d'Alessandro family had interests in Carovilli and its surroundings. Examples mentioned in the text include cav. Giovanni, an experienced horseman; Agapito d'Alessandro, who collected tributes from the feudal universities; and Fabio Junior, the VI Baron and I Duke of Pescolanciano, who attended a meeting at the University of Carovilli.
Visiting Carovilli
Now, speaking of the present, Carovilli is a pleasant place to visit. Its main tourist attraction is the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, dating back to the sixteenth century and housing some precious frescoes inside. Additionally, during the summer period, it organizes many outdoor activities, such as mountain excursions and nature hikes.
But visiting Carovilli is also an opportunity to immerse yourself in the daily life of a small Italian town. Take a walk around the historic center and discover its most characteristic corners, among ancient stone houses and panoramic views of the valley below. And don't forget to stop at one of the bars in town to enjoy a coffee or an aperitif with the locals!
In conclusion...
I hope I've piqued your curiosity to visit Carovilli. This Molisan town has a lot to offer, both from a historical and scenic point of view. But what really makes it special are the people who live there: friendly, welcoming, and always ready to make you feel at home. So, what are you waiting for? We're waiting for you in Carovilli!
