Nocelleto
Welcome to Nocelleto: the story of a geographical hamlet
Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about Nocelleto, a geographical hamlet in the Italian Municipality of Carinola. Nocelleto is one of the largest and most populous hamlets in the Municipality of Carinola, but its history is truly interesting. Come with me to discover this beautiful area!
The history of Nocelleto
The history of Nocelleto originates from the ancient Roman settlement of Urbana. However, after the fall of Urbana, the area became very unhealthy and unsafe, and the inhabitants began to move to safer and healthier areas. Only a few serfs and farmers remained, who fortified themselves in farmhouses. For this reason, a new form of urban and building organization was created, called the farmhouse-village. Subsequently, the territory was divided into real parishes.
At the end of the fifteenth century, two of the major communities, S. Pietro and Nocelleto, merged with each other, founding a new settlement, in the center of which a church dedicated to S. Sisto II, pope and martyr, was built. After the Second World War, Nocelleto began to develop urbanistically and demographically thanks to various reclamation works to eliminate swamps and marshy areas.
