History and Geography

Montesolaro has a rich and interesting history. Since the Renaissance, it has been a loyal parish, but it has never had the title of a municipality. This is one of the few cases in Lombardy, but it has not hindered the development of the hamlet.

The name Montesolaro derives from the Latin "mons solarium", which means "mount exposed to the sun". Located in the southern part of the province, Montesolaro borders to the north with the municipality of Cantù, to the south with Carimate and to the east with Figino Serenza. It is 42 km from Milan-Malpensa Airport, 32 km from Milan and 17 km from Como.
