Carbonara Scrivia
A trip to Carbonara Scrivia
Hello everyone! Today I'm taking you on a journey to discover Carbonara Scrivia, a small town with 1119 inhabitants located in the province of Alessandria, in the Piedmont region. In the Tortona dialect, the town is called "Carbunera", but for friends it's just "Carby"!
The history of Carbonara Scrivia
The municipality of Carbonara Scrivia has a rich history and its territory has hosted more than one castle over the centuries. In fact, at the center of the town stands a keep, the only remains of a castle that should date back to the fourteenth or fifteenth centuries. The fortress was destroyed and rebuilt several times; in 1828 a strong earthquake ruined the structure and a few years later the last and definitive collapse of the roof greatly damaged the building, of which only the external structure remains.
One of the main attractions of the town is the Church of San Martino Vescovo, built in 1780. In addition, the coat of arms of the municipality of Carbonara Scrivia was granted by royal decree on December 10, 1942.
Monuments and places of interest
As I have already mentioned, the most impressive and interesting structure in the town is the keep, the real symbol of Carbonara Scrivia. After being owned by the Guidobono Cavalchini family for many years, it was donated in the 1980s to the municipality of Carbonara Scrivia. The keep is the only vestige of the castle that once stood in the center of the town.
The Church of San Martino Vescovo is another important tourist attraction of the town. Built in 1780, the church is located in the historic center of the town and is the largest place of worship in the municipality.
