History
Turin has a millennia-old history, having been founded around the 3rd century BC by the Taurini, who called it Taurasia. Later, the ancient Romans turned it into a colony and renamed it Iulia Augusta Taurinorum. In 1563, it officially became the capital of Savoy and, from 1720 until becoming the first capital of the Kingdom of Italy in 1861.
