History

Carapelle Calvisio has a long history. Already in 779 some inhabitants of the Casale di Carapelle occupied some possessions of the Monastery of San Pietro in Trite. In the thirteenth century, the village constituted the Demanium Carapelle, giving the name to the famous barony of Carapelle. This barony passed through many families, such as Pagliara, Colonna, Celano, Caldora, Accrocciamuro, Piccolomini Todeschini, Del Pezzo, Cattaneo, Medici and Bourbon.

Since then, Carapelle Calvisio has experienced many changes, such as the aggregation to the Government of Capestrano, the administrative union with the municipality of Capestrano, the birth of the autonomous municipality after the detachment of Castelvecchio Carapelle and the addition of the specification "Calvisio" to distinguish it from the homonymous Carapelle in the province of Foggia.

Life in Carapelle Calvisio

Carapelle Calvisio is a very quiet and isolated municipality, but this is precisely its strength. Here you can discover the beauty of the mountains and nature, take beautiful walks, enjoy the fresh and clean air, and detach from the frenzy of the city.

In the past, the village was mainly populated by shepherds and farmers. Today, however, the main economic activities are agritourism and tourism, which offer a development opportunity for the territory. Among the beauties to admire, there are the Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli, the medieval tower, and the Palazzo dei Baroni.
