The history of Capriata d'Orba dates back to 973, when it was mentioned for the first time in a sales deed in favor of a certain Roprando. Later, in 1143, it became the possession of the marquises of Bosco, of Aleramic origin. Over the centuries, Capriata d'Orba passed under the rule of the Republic of Genoa, Alessandria, the Duchy of Milan, and again the Republic of Genoa, before being handed over to the marquises of Monferrato. Over the centuries, Capriata d'Orba was devastated by wars and sieges, including the Savoy-Genoa War of 1625 and the Monferrato Succession War of 1648.
