In the Middle Ages, Pescarzo was an important refreshment point for travelers moving along Valle Camonica, where the consuls of Pescarzo swore loyalty to the bishop of Brescia, Berardo Maggi. Today, Pescarzo is a restored medieval village that preserves its identity intact.
Monuments and places of interest
The churches of Pescarzo are two and represent a true example of local religious architecture. The parish church of San Vito, Crescenzia and Modesto was built in the seventeenth century by order of San Carlo Borromeo, while the church of San Rocco is dedicated to the patron saint of the hamlet. The hamlet of Pescarzo has a population of 300 inhabitants during the summer, while in winter and autumn it counts only 150 residents. The inhabitants of Pescarzo are distinguished by the nickname "Bàsoi", which embodies the essence of the collective identity of the village. The "ImmaginArti" event is an event that has been held in Pescarzo since 2000 and aims to enhance the traditional craftsmanship of the area and to revive the ancient techniques of material processing. During the event, artisans from Valle Camonica and the surrounding regions exhibit their crafts in the courtyards and ground floor rooms of the houses, which are transformed for a few summer evenings into traditional handicraft shops open to visitors.
