Capistrello

Welcome to Capistrello!

Hello everyone! Today, I'll talk to you about Capistrello, an Abruzzese commune with about 4800 inhabitants located in the province of L'Aquila. Are you ready? Let's begin!

Physical Geography

Capistrello is located at the border between the Roveto Valley and the Palentini Plains, in the central area of Abruzzo. It is crossed by the 690 Avezzano-Sora state road and the 82 Valle del Liri state road, and its location makes it an important communication point between the Tyrrhenian Sea side and the Marsican area.

Capistrello: between mountains, nature and history.

The municipal area is characterized by the presence of Mount Arezzo, where the urban center of Capistrello is located, and the Liri Valley, which runs through the territory for about 120 kilometers. The commune borders other Abruzzese territories such as Avezzano, Castellafiume, and Scurcola Marsicana, but also with the Lazio commune of Filettino.

Territory

Capistrello is located in a particular position, in a narrow passage between the delimitation of the Ernici-Monti Simbruini mountain range to the north and the mountainous ridge that separates it from the Fucino plain. Its territory is rich in natural resources, such as Mount Salviano, which exceeds 1000 meters in altitude and the Serra Lunga, which extends to the heart of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park.

On the summit of Mount Salviano, you can visit the Sanctuary of Madonna di Pietraquaria and the convent of the Capuchin friars. Near Capistrello, the Roveto Valley also begins, which extends to the Pescocanale fraction.

Climate

The climate of Capistrello is typically continental, with cold winters and mild summers. The average annual temperature is about 10.75 degrees, with an average of 91 freezes per year. The coldest month is January, with an average temperature of 2.3 degrees, while the warmest months are July and August, with an average temperature of 20 degrees.

The highest temperature ever recorded in Capistrello was a scorching 42 degrees, while the lowest recorded temperature was -20 degrees.

Conclusion

And so, my story about Capistrello comes to an end! I hope I have shown you a bit more about this Abruzzo commune, rich in history, culture, and natural beauty. I recommend visiting it if you are in the area, perhaps during the summer to enjoy the mild temperatures. See you next time!
