Presentation of Turin

Hello everyone! Are you ready to discover one of Italy's most important and fascinating cities with me? Today I will talk to you about Turin, famous for its millennial history, culture, and economic vitality. Turin is the most populous common neighborhood in Italy, with almost 1.7 million inhabitants and is the heart of the Piedmont region and the metropolitan city of Turin.

History

Founded around the 3rd century BC by the Taurini, Turin was later transformed into a Roman colony by Augustus in the 1st century BC. After being the capital of an important duchy and of the Marca di Torino, Turin became part of the territories of the Casa Savoia from the 11th century. As a city of the Duchy of Savoy since 1563, in 1720 it became the capital of the Kingdom of Sardinia (1720-1861) and subsequently the first Capital of the Kingdom of Italy (1861-1946).

The millennium charm of Turin: history, culture and economy.

Economy and Culture

But Turin is not only a city with a millennial history. It is also one of the major economic and cultural centers in Italy. Turin is the third most important industrial production complex in the country, together with Milan and Genoa. It is an important center for publishing, gastronomy, the aerospace sector, industrial design, cinema, sports, fashion, and artificial intelligence.

Physical Geography

As for its physical geography, Turin is located in the plain bordered by the rivers Stura di Lanzo, Sangone, and Po, in front of the mouth of some alpine valleys. The city is crossed by the Po River, which makes it a strategic crossing point between northern and southern Italy. Turin also boasts the presence of two UNESCO-protected sites: some palaces and areas belonging to the circuit of Savoyard residences in Piedmont and the Po Hills area.

City of Art and Culture

Turin is a city of art and culture, with an extraordinary range of museums and cultural activities: the Egyptian Museum, the National Museum of Cinema, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Sabauda Gallery, the Pinacoteca Agnelli... just to name a few examples! But Turin is also a city that knows how to have fun, hosting international events such as the ATP Finals in tennis, in 2021, the Eurovision Song Contest final, in 2022, and the XX Winter Olympics in 2006.

Piedmontese Cuisine

For lovers of good food, Turin offers numerous delicacies of Piedmontese cuisine, including the famous Vermouth, Gianduiotti chocolates, breadsticks, and espresso coffee. A real delight for the palate!

Conclusion

In short, Turin is a diverse and eclectic city that has managed to evolve while preserving the signs of its past. If you haven't visited it yet, I recommend you to do so as soon as possible. You will surely be conquered by its beauty and vitality. And if you have already been there, let me know what you think!
