Canosio
Canosio, the small commune of Langhe
Hello friends! Today I want to talk to you about a very special commune, Canosio. It is a small village in Langhe, in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont, with only 74 inhabitants. You will discover its physical geography, history, monuments and places of interest, society and administration, so follow me!
Physical geography
Canosio is located in the Alta Val Maira, in the valley with the same name, and covers an area of 36.60 km². The mainly mountainous territory is included between the 560 meters above sea level of the confluence of the Canosio stream in the Maira and the 2950 meters of Mount Alpetto. The latter is part of the Gardetta plateau, an Italian geological heritage.
History
Canosio has ancient origins, dating back to the Roman period, but of the numerous archaeological evidences, only the remains of a Roman villa in the hamlet of Rainèrias remain. In the Middle Ages, it was under the lordship of the bishops of Cuneo and subsequently passed under the control of the Marquisate of Saluzzo. Later, it was influenced by the Alessi family, of which they had control for many years. In 1860, with the Unification of Italy, Canosio was included in the province of Cuneo.
Symbols
The coat of arms of the municipality of Canosio was granted by decree of the President of the Republic on November 30, 2005. The logo is characterized by a coat of arms in fifteenth-century style, divided into four parts where we find the sun, the eagle, the tower and a checkerboard.
Society
Canosio is famous for its community spirit and solidarity among its inhabitants. Here, in fact, everyone knows each other and helps each other, both in daily activities and for festive occasions.
Demographic evolution
As mentioned earlier, the municipality of Canosio has about 74 inhabitants, but this number is constantly decreasing compared to previous years.
Monuments and places of interest
Canosio is a small mountain village that offers visitors numerous opportunities to discover its natural treasures. The main place of interest in the town is the Gardetta plateau, an area of rare beauty among the Maritime Alps. Here you can admire a unique flora and fauna, as well as trails for hiking, cycling and horseback riding.
Administration
As for the administration, there is a mayor and a municipal council of 5 members in Canosio. The municipality is part of the Mountain Community Valle Maira and the Piedmont Region.
Notes
I would like to point out that in the surroundings of Canosio there are other very interesting villages to visit, such as Sampeyre, with its medieval castle, and Marmora, with its gastronomic museum.
