Canneto Pavese

The History and Historical Centers of Canneto Pavese

Canneto Pavese, also called "Caneed" in the Oltrepadano dialect, is an Italian municipality of 1294 inhabitants, located in the province of Pavia in Lombardy. The territory of the current municipality of Canneto Pavese includes numerous centers, which once enjoyed municipal autonomy. In the past, the most important centers were "Montù de Gabbi", which, from the twelfth century, represented the main center of the area, "Vigalone", mentioned for the first time in 1164, and "Monteveneroso" called in dialect "Monterosus".

Symbols of Canneto Pavese

The coat of arms and the gonfalon of Canneto Pavese, approved by the municipal council in 1961 and granted by decree of the President of the Republic in 1962, represent grape growing, winemaking, and the green of the countryside, which refers to the fertility of the soil.

The castle at the top of the shield recalls Castello di Montuè and the gonfalon is a cloth divided in green and white.
