Candia Canavese

Welcome to Candia Canavese!

Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about a small town in Piedmont, Italy: Candia Canavese, affectionately called "Cangia" in the Piedmontese language. Candia has only 1187 inhabitants, but don't be fooled by its size, because it has a lot to offer!

Where is Candia Canavese?

Candia Canavese is located about 36 kilometers northeast of Turin and is located in the historic region of Canavese, in Piedmont. Nearby cities include Rivarolo Canavese, Ivrea, and Chivasso.

Candia Canavese: a treasure of the Piedmontese Canavese region.

Physical geography

Candia Canavese is located on the slopes of Mount Santo Stefano, the last hilly outcrop of the Ivrea morainic amphitheater, in the Lower Canavese. The view it offers is breathtaking, on one side you can admire the Po Valley, the hills of Monferrato, the Superga and Maddalena hills above Turin and in the distance the Monviso in the Alps; on the other side you can enjoy the view of the green landscape of Canavese with the Morenic ridge of Ivrea and in the background still the Alps of Colma di Mombarone and Gran Paradiso. The Lake of Candia is one of its main attractions and is protected as the Candia Lake Natural Park.

History

The coat of arms and flag of Candia Canavese were granted by decree of the President of the Republic on September 22, 2009. The flag is a white cloth.

Monuments and places of interest

The Lake of Candia is a true wonder. It is located in the southwest bend of the Ivrea morainic amphitheater and is a basin of glacial origin fed by underground sources and with water outflow guaranteed through the Traversaro Canal. The protected area, since 1995, as a protected natural area conserves environmental features of great interest. Around the lake there are more than 200 species of plants of wetland environments, some of which are rare and considered integral protection of the Piedmont Region. But the real treasure of this place is its birdlife: with over 200 species of birds (especially aquatic ones), it is among the most important wetlands in Italy.

Castelfiorito, the nineteenth-century reconstruction of the ancient castle of Candia Canavese that once dominated the village, is another monument to visit. It was also called "castrum of Candia" in the past, today it is a charming restoration of the original castle.

Conclusion

Candia Canavese is a must-see for those visiting the Canavese region in Piedmont. With its wonderful lake and birdlife, it offers a unique experience. The town is not only a natural paradise but also rich in history, as evidenced by Castelfiorito and its coat of arms. Come visit Candia and you will be enchanted by its beauty!
