Mascioni

Mascioni: a small village surrounded by nature

If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing place near the capital, Mascioni could be the right choice for you. This small village is located only 3.69 kilometers from the center of L'Aquila and is surrounded by the greenery of the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park. Located at 1392 meters above sea level, it also offers a spectacular view of Lake Campotosto.

The church of San Giovanni Battista and the cemetery

The center of Mascioni is located on a small hill and has a parish church dedicated to San Giovanni Battista. This religious building has interesting architecture and certainly deserves a visit. Next to the church is the cemetery, built at the entrance of the village. Despite its somewhat unusual location, the Mascioni cemetery has a very peaceful and serene atmosphere.

The chapel of Andrea da Montereale

Mascioni is also known as the birthplace of Andrea da Montereale, a religious figure who was beatified in 1867. To honor this local figure, a chapel was built near his birthplace. The chapel is dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi and offers a place for prayer and meditation for anyone who wants to visit.

Notes

Mascioni is one of the fractions of Campotosto, a municipality of L'Aquila located in the Abruzzo region. The village is located within the Campotosto Lake Nature Reserve, which offers many opportunities for hiking or cycling.
