Campomorone: a municipality in Liguria

Hello! Today I will talk to you about Campomorone, a municipality located in the metropolitan city of Genoa, in the Liguria region. This municipality, which has about 6,500 inhabitants, is located north of Genoa and most of its territory extends into Val Verde, a minor valley of Val Polcevera.

Physical Geography

The territory of Campomorone is very diverse: on one side there are valleys and water courses, while on the other it extends to the Po Valley, with a view of the lakes of Gorzente. Among the main water courses are the Verde, the Riccò, and the minor streams of Iso, Gioventina, Gallaneto and San Martino. In addition, there are several peaks that exceed 500 meters, including Mount Figne, Taccone, Leco, Bric di Guana, Bric Lagolungo, Mount Battolina, Mount Calvo, Bric Bastia, Mount Carlo and Mount Carmelo. From the pass of Bocchetta, located at over 700 meters above sea level, you can reach the Piedmontese town of Voltaggio, in the Lemme valley.

Campomorone: a discovery among valleys and history

History

If you are passionate about history, you will be interested to know that Campomorone has very ancient roots, dating back to the Iron Age. During the Roman period, the Via Postumia was built, which passed through this area. Later, there were numerous disputes between the Ligurians and the Ligurians, who dominated the area, and the Roman Senate had to intervene to restore order. In the third century, the first barbarian incursions caused a momentary depopulation of the village, but later the area began to repopulate.

In the sixteenth century, the Republic of Genoa became the owner of the village and made the Polcevera valley floor path accessible to carriages up to the Bocchetta pass. In 1583, the new road was inaugurated and the Balbi Palace, now the seat of the municipality, was built. Towards the end of the century, the green marble extraction activity of Pietralavezzara was already operating, which was believed to have been introduced only in the Renaissance.

Conclusions

These are the main information about Campomorone, a very interesting municipality from a geographical and historical point of view. However, like many places in Italy, Campomorone has undergone a series of changes over the centuries, and you can understand this by visiting the town in person. Don't miss the opportunity to discover the beauty of this corner of Liguria!
