A bit of history of Campoli Appennino

The name of the village derives from the toponym "campora", which indicated the cultivable lands in the mountains. In the Middle Ages, the territory was part of the rich latifundium of the d'Aquino family. Landolfo I D'Aquino, the first lord of Castello Cantelmo, was the first to have the lands of Alvito, Campoli, Settefrati, and part of Aquino.

Between the 14th and 16th centuries, Campoli Appennino followed the fate of the County of Alvito, of which it was a part. Being a feud of the Kingdom of Naples, the territory of the municipality also concerned some localities in the Comino Valley.
