Campodolcino is located in a privileged position, on the road that leads from Chiavenna to the Spluga Pass, and includes several hamlets that extend along the glaciated valley of the Liro. Physical Geography

Territory

The territory of Campodolcino extends from the Lepontine Alps to the Rhaetian Alps, being crossed by the direction between Western and Eastern Alps. The municipality was formed from the union of the aggregates of Portarezza, Prestone, Pietra, Acero, Tini and Corti, all located at the bottom of the Valley and now forming a continuous urban area on the edges of the SS 36 road of Lake Como and the Spluga.

Climate

The summer climate in Campodolcino is cool and the winter climate is harsher than in other places at the same altitude due to the conformation of the valley, narrow and deep, with limited sunshine hours. It is recommended to pay attention to the temperature and dress accordingly.

Hamlets

Campodolcino is composed of several hamlets, each with its own peculiarities. Prestone is known for the local Festa dei Boee, while Portarezza hosts the Spluga Pass route. Pietra is located north of Portarezza on the banks of the lake. Tini, once the heart of the village, hosts the Sports Center, a residential area and several commercial activities. Acero is a mainly residential hamlet and hosts the bridge called "Romano". Corti is the main center of the village, where you can find shops, restaurants and the MuViS museum, the eco-museum dedicated to the history and traditions of the Spluga Valley and among the few examples of this kind in Italy.

Tourist attractions

Campodolcino offers numerous tourist attractions, from breathtaking views to outdoor activities. The hamlet of Fraciscio, for example, is located at 1,341 m above sea level in the Valley of the Rabbiosa and is famous for being the birthplace of San Luigi Guanella, Mons. The surrounding area is perfect for walks and excursions immersed in nature. In addition, the village hosts the famous Roman Bridge and the Sports Center of Tini, where you can practice sports such as soccer and volleyball. Don't miss the Festa dei Boee in Prestone and visit the cemetery of Corti, where the grave of the famous mountaineer Mario Curnis is located.

How to reach us

Campodolcino is easily reachable by car via the SS 36 road of Lake Como and the Spluga Pass. Moreover, it can also be reached by train, thanks to the Campodolcino railway station. If you want to follow the Spluga route, you can reach the village through the Swiss border and continue towards the Spluga Valley.
